Nike made this collection a few years back and they are keeping this collection going. The collection consists of: Kobe 10s, KD 7s and Lebron 12s. No new players have been added to this year, but I have a feeling Kyrie Irving will be added to this collection down the line sometime.

jordan 13 low hornets
SneakerBarDetroit

Air Jordan 13 Low “Hornets”
Price: $170
Release Date: 4/18/15
Alright now this is a must have shoe in my opinion; the must have of this weekend. The colorway, just like the nickname, honors the team MJ owns: the Charlotte Hornets. A lot of people don’t like new Jordan colorways at all but these are just plain clean. These are the first 13 lows of many to release this year. Definitely digging what the Jordan brand is doing by bringing back the 13 lows.

AJ 7 Court Purple Lola Bunny
Nike

Air Jordan 7 “Lola Bunny”
Price: $140
Release Date: 4/18/15
The ladies are also getting hooked up this weekend with their very own pair of Jordans. I can see these get the Mocha 3 status down the line, people will sleep on them now but will want them later when they are a must have.

Women’s Nike Air Max 1 Ultra City Collection

Nike been doing this City theme for the past few years, and it’s been a hit. This go around is only for the ladies and Nike killed it again. Nike also added a bag for the shoes in the collection; very nice touch Nike.

Women's Nike Air Max 1 Ultra City Collection

Nike Air Foamposite Pro ‘Gym Red’
Price: $230
Release Date: 4/11/15
I’m a fan of Foams in general so this is a cop for sure. It doesn’t look like Nike is stopping with the red theme anytime soon. It all started with the Red October Yeezy’s, then it made its way to other Nike lines, and now the latest victim to this red theme is the Foamposite Pro.

Air Jordan 11 Low 'Georgetown'

Air Jordan 11 Low ‘Georgetown’

RIP Kicksplorer

Kicksplorer

Well first off, I want to thank each and every one of you who tagged “Kicksplorer” for the last two years. I really appreciate it, and I will be giving a special S/O and blog on Sunday to say thank you to everyone I can. Loyalty is hard to find in this world today, and it means a lot to me. From now on, the new hashtag is #freshemporiumkicks, and I’ll explain why.

Kicksplorer
Kicksplorer

In my last S/O post, I explained the story behind the term I created, Kicksplorer, I owned the domain name for some time, and basically it was version 1.0 of what later became Freshemporium.com. When I make business decisions I sit on them and stew for awhile, so I opted not to develop version 1.0 and instead went onto this project as a passion, and a more all encompassing approach to style, fashion, and men’s interest; not JUST sneakers as the first site would have been. So with that being said, shame on me, I can’t be too angry at the “COCKSPLORERS” in the Philippines who decided to take over the domain name as well as the hashtag (even though it had 7500 tags over 2 years before they even used it once). It is disheartening, as it’s like someone stealing your baby. After speaking with an attorney, if I tried to pursue any kind of intellectual property claim against the COCKSPLORERS, it’d basically be like throwing money into a fire, as they have no U.S. assets to go after. So, I guess I will have to sit back and watch to see if they move into this country with their business.

So, because I will not allow OUR sneaker shots be used to promote a business so dastardly built off my own ideas, I want everyone who is, or has tagged “Kicksplorer” to now tag #freshemporiumkicks, and I will do a monthly or 2x monthly shoutout for the kick pics, on this site, as well as instagram. Again, I apologize for the change, but it is indeed necessary, so remember to remove the old tag from your lists. Let these douche bags promote their own business, and we will move on.

Thank you,
Mr. Sneakerjunkie

#Kicksplorer: Tag those kick pics

I started the #Kicksplorer tag a little over a year ago. I hated dealing with the online ordering on sneaker releases, so basically, I drove all over the Midwest to grab my kicks, and therefore I was a Kicksplorer. I never have asked anyone to use the tag until today, I looked at it more of a tip of the cap so to speak, use my tag, and I’ll use yours. Well now that I have a website to showcase friends and fam on, why not do shoutouts this way? #Kicksplorer is now about 7k strong in tags on instagram, lets make it 20k before the end of 2015, so tag your sneaker pics and I’ll make sure to post a s/o at least once a month!

The REAL All Star Game is between the Sneaker BIG 3

Well, The NBA All Star Game is over, the West won, Westbrook was the MVP, cool. The weekend came and went, but one battle was going months ahead of time, the battle for your money between Nike/Jordan, Reebok, and Adidas. We wrote up the Constellation pack last week, the Jordan Laser offerings were obviously a hit with most of you, the Adidas Lillard and Wall Signatures were bland to say the least, and we all have differing opinions on the Yeezy 750 Boost. One brand stood out from the rest in my opinion, Reebok really stole the show with their collaboration packs with Packer/Sneakerstuff and Stance for the Token38 Pack.

The reason I’m handing the crown to Reebok, well, their collection of collabs was the opposite of bland, there was color, and a range of materials used to make these shoes. The best part, there was no theme used across the board as with the other all star releases. I get bored when every shoe looks the same, other than their silhouette. I mean seriously, Jordan Brand released the AJ1, AJ4, AJ20 all looking the exact same other than their overall design silhouette? You couldn’t just release one or two this weekend and then release the 3rd retro later this year? The money grab is strong lately, I get the feeling Jordan Brand knows a lot of people are tired of their releases and are jumping ship into other brands as well as other shoe types i.e. runners/casual etc. Releases seem to be coming fast and furious out of JB, but when I see a company do what Reebok did, basically saying “Fck You!” to the typical all star formula (pick a theme/scheme and color all your shoes that way, then release them as all star shoes even though they won’t be on court ala AF1 and Nike CMFT Dunk) and do something totally different to honor past Reebok All Star players and their respective kicks, that’s that shit…and it deserves to be noted, applauded, and given a closer look, and definitely a wide general release.

We’ll start with the fact that each pair of shoes in the collection comes with a matching pair of Stance socks, added value is rare in the sneaker world anymore. The Sneakerstuff x Reebok Pump Fury, taking color cues from the home Knickerbockers, is the first shoe in the pack we will cover. I’m not a Pump Fury guy at all, so these were probably the least interesting to me, maybe Knicks fans will dig em? I can get down with the block style coloring chosen, giving the shoe a retro feel, but as a lifelong Bulls fan, I don’t do Knicks CWs, period.

Reebok did give basketball Sneakerheads some heat though with the Token38 Pack, the Question Mid “MSG”, and “A Shoe about Crocus,” stole the show in this pack. The MSG features an all black upper with purple accents, and the ‘Crocus’ uses a tiffany like teal and royal purple, both shoes look as though the materials used are nothing short of premium from the HD pics I’ve seen. I wish I lived in NY because I wanted BOTH of these pairs.

Three Kamikaze II’s are in this pack, including a PE, and a Reissue. Super heat continues here as the “Remember the Alamo” ‘Kaze II by Packer steals the show, I wanted these last year, so to see them again, makes me even more upset that this pack wasn’t a general release. Other than the reissue Alamo All Star, we also have the Reebok Token38 Kamikaze II PE, which features White/Black/Purple upper, and Token 38 branding on the ankle support. Raw shoe…real clean, quality pigskin used on the upper leather, just pure and unadulterated freshness. The last Kamikaze II in the set is the version by Sneakerstuff. This ‘Kaze, again featuring premium materials, is mainly a white upper with black 3M accents (gray when flashed), to represent the saying, “Ashy to Classy.” By the way, Ashy Larry, please don’t sue us.

The final kick in the kit is the Packer Shoes x Reebok Shaq Attaq Token38. Pretty clean; of all the kicks in this pack this particular pair looks most like a general release shoe that could’ve dropped in the 90s. I’m sure up close, there are a lot of features I’m missing with simple pictures, but I know premium pigskins were again used to comprise the upper, and these were basically a reinterpretation of a general release, featuring an inverse of this colorway. Again, Token38 branding is featured, but less prominently on this shoe (behind the tongue).

I’m sure you’ve by now seen all the All Star shoes by now, but I think Reebok/Sneakerstuff/Packer, won the battle this year with the Token38 Pack, in terms of originality, and quality.

Nike Constellation Collection 2015

Nike 2015 Constellation sneakers

Nike started the All-Star Collection a few years back with the signature Kobe, Lebron, and KD. Since then, Nike keeps adding additional silhouettes to the collection each year, Nike saw how this was creating hype and ran with it. This year’s ASG (all star game) collection consists of Nike Air Force 1, Nike Dunk High CMFT Premium, Nike LunarWavy High, and the much anticipated Nike Air Foamposite One.

The Nike Air Force 1 has a white/white upper and clear icy bottoms. The upper sports a few different prints starting with the 5 point Star print covering the front of the shoe and the 4 point star print in the middle of the shoe and ending with the single point diamond star print at the heel. The print on the upper reminds me of the Just Don 2 that released last week. The insoles have a constellation map printed on it.

The Nike Dunk High CMFT Premium is probably my favorite out of this collection. Nike has been doing the Dunk High CMFT justice as of late. The quality Nike has been putting in for Dunks and SBs have been on point and beyond my own expectation. A constellation of the collection’s three-dimensional star studs are featured on the toe box and ankle, while New York City’s telephone area codes appear on the middle of the shoe. This shoe also has a Hyper Jade lining and has an icy bottom to finish off the Dunk.

Nike is hooking up the ladies with the Nike LunarWavy Ski Hi for this up coming All-Star Weekend. This shoe combined two of Nike Basketball’s greatest footwear icons, the Nike Air Foamposite One and The Nike Air Force 1. The upper sports a white wavy look to it that reminds you of a Foamposite with Black Leather lining/ankle collar. Of all the shoes in this collection I think these will be the first ones to hit the discount rack and Outlets.

The most hyped up shoe coming out All-Star Weekend is the much anticipated Nike Foamposite 1. I can still remember the Foamposite that started all this madness for All-Star Weekend was the Galaxy Foams that released a few years back. This year’s Foamposite got the nickname Chromeposite, due it this chrome like upper. The shoe also has the same three-dimensional star studs that the Dunk CMFT has, but instead of having it on the toe box it has the stars on the heel tab of the shoe. The shoe is also sporting icy bottoms. This shoe, I can live without, plus there will be a ton of people buying this shoe just to flip them for cash cause of the hype around foamposites. I stand by what I said earlier, the only shoe from this collection I would buy is the Nike Dunk High CMFT.

Is this the best All-Star Game collection, I don’t think so. How does this year’s collection rank amongst the past ones? Let us know in comments below.

Adidas Black History Month Collection 2015

2015 Adidas Black History Month Sneaker Release
Release 1/23, 1/30 and 2/6 on adidas.com and select retailers

Adidas Basketball has gotten into the fun of holiday/themed releases. Their Black History Month (BHM) collection for this year is a pretty strong, and I personally like the choice of theme: living legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The 4 silhouettes to be released in the brown/bronze colorways are covered in quotes that are made to represent Kareem’s career and his various stops along the way.

Crazy 8: “Fundamentals are the Foundation for Excellence” Release 1/23

The once upon a time Kobe signature, is now graced with the Adidas BHM treatment, the quote above is featured on the shoe and is supposed to represent the good ole days of childhood in Harlem. Canvas is used for the upper, a throwback; the sock liner uses his high school colors of purple and gold.

J Wall 1: “Rules are what make the Game Challenging” Release 1/30

The Wall signature is basically covered in words; the whole upper is an essay from afar. The sock liner is blue and gold to represent the UCLA days. Kareem honed his skills in college and under John Wooden, learned the game.

D Rose 5 Boost: “The Hook shot is Worth a Thousand Words” Release 1/30

The Milwaukee Bucks days are featured on the Rose boot, where Kareem really made the sky hook his signature along the way to his first NBA Championship and NBA Finals MVP run. The sock liner is red and green, which gives the shoe its Buck’s spin.

D Lillard 1: “When the Music Changes, So Does the Dance” Release 2/6

The D Lillard line just launched this month, and this shoe represents the last part of the Kareem Show, in Lakerville, USA. Los Angeles purple, gold, and palm trees are shown in the sock liner. Kareem had most of his success in LA, winning 5 NBA rings there, and the quote just shows the change in scenery, going from Milwaukee to LA, as well as his style of play changing with a different supporting cast of teammates. Is it just me, or does the silhouette/side view of the upper on this shoe kind of take the shape of an exaggerated AJ3?

Kareem is one of the NBA’s top 50 of All Time, 6x NBA champ (as a player, 2 more as an asst coach) 19x all star, 2x Finals MVP, so this honor is definitely deserved for Kareem. Personally, I’m after those canvas Crazy 8s. It’s nice to see a brand pay homage to a hero to many, who played in an era before the interwebs and “limited edition” player signature shoes. Pick these up at adidas.com on their respective release dates starting this Friday.

Nike Black History Month Releases – 2015

black history month nike sneaker release 2015
Images from: Nike.com

Nike’s Black History Collection is coming out this weekend. They wanted to make sure and rape everyone’s pockets on this batch of releases so they threw the gauntlet down, 11 different shoes and even a cleat, you know, in case you are peacefully protesting and have to run out for a pass. Nike really knows how to honor fallen heroes, make money off of their legacy, well duh? The uppers of all of these shoes are…..wait for it….black and white. Hey Nike, lets try to further racial harmony, not outline the clear differences between us subconsciously in the design. The BHM collection is just another money grab to release their “common” silhouettes in a “limited” theme; at least Adidas is honoring a legend, Kareem, with their BHM collection. Kyrie, LeBron, Kobe, AJ1, KD7, are all featured, as well as AM1 for you runners and Dunk Lows for the, uhm, skaters(?). Good luck on release morning because we all know how Nike.com is on a Saturday. I’ll be saving my loot for the Adidas BHM Crazy 8, you gunnin’ for any of these Nike BHM’s?

New Year, New Release Time

This will be the 2nd week with the new time change for releases on Saturday mornings on the interweb. If you don’t know yet, sneaker release time has been changed to 10am eastern / 7am pacific (Hawaii, you do the math because I don’t want to). This took effect last Saturday, so if you’re planning on copping kicks on Saturday make sure you set your alarm to the new release time. When I started buying shoes online the release time used to be 12am eastern/ 9am pacific, then the switch to 8am eastern/ 5am pacific, and now this. I felt the 8am/5am release time was good. If you really wanted the shoes, you would have to wake up early to get them. Even though you would still have to fight bots for kicks, there are some people that wouldn’t wake up early enough for online releases. I see that as fair game, due to the fact that we still have to fight them annoying ass bots for kicks. Well, at least we get to sleep in a little on release day now.

Some highlights from this weekend are the Christmas Collection: Kobe 9, LeBron 12 and KD7.Set your alarms on your phone/watch/tablet (do people still use alarm clocks?) if you want to get on these releases. Good luck out there!
